The Misses Bullen and Miss Meta Nixon, who have been for a trip to England, returned to Christchurch yesterday.

Mr and Mrs W. H. Price and Miss Kathleen Price (Fendalton) have left for a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs O. 8., MeAloon have left for Wellington, where they intend to reside. Mr MeAloon, who was formerly a member of the local telegraph staff has been appointed to the accountants' branch, General Post Office, Wellington.

Mrs Petty and her two daughters, who have been staying at Hacremai, Sumner, returned to Ashburton on Monday.

On Monday evening a surprise party visited the residence of Mr and Mrs V. S. Graham, Stanmore road, Richmond, to celebrate the birthday of their son Ralph. The evening "was spent in dancing, games, and competitions. A dainty supper was serveu, including a birthday cake on which were 17 lighted candles. Another New Zealand pioneer, Mrs Mary Corcoran, of Aiiuura, west Coast, died' in C'liristcliurck. on Monday, alter j, snort illness, bhe arrived in iNetf Zealand in itt<6 and lived in Oamaru tor some time, and was there married to Patrick Corcoran, who afterwards oecame a, well-known contractor in different parts of the New Zealand. Ultimately, they settied at Ahaura on the West Coast, where the deceased resided for upwards of 40 years. » Her husband died in 1903. She was of robust constitution, and had no serious illness in her life until the illness which resulted in her death. She was another example of those sturdy pioneers to whom New Zealand owes so much. Self-reliant J and independent, she continued to supervise personally the working of her farm from the time of her Husband's death until a few weeks ago. Her sudden dem'se is much deplored by all those who knew her and their symoathy goes out to the relatives in their bereavement. Mrs Corcoran leaves two <vms and four daughters. Mr William Corcoran (Hawera), Mr John Corcoran (Ahaura), Mrs Cecil Grander (New Plymouth), Mrs W. H. Candv (Liriwood), Mrs- Gordon Salway (Wnitoitni, New Wvmouth), and Miss Delia Corcoran (Ahaura). A very pleasing little ceremony took place at the Richmond Hill Clubhousa yesterday when the lady members J met to make a presentation to Mrs C. H. Hamilton, who has been the lady captain for the past twelve years. Mrs Hamilton retired from offica this vear, and it was felt that the members could not let the season pass without showing Mrs Hamilton some little mark of their Mrs, WVteombe presented the guest with a travelling-rug and sonko. appreciatively of her untiring efforts in connexion with the club. Mrs J. D. Lawrence spoke on of the original members, Mrs Seymour as the first secretary, and M'ss fathead for the present members. Mrs Hamilton suitably replied, and was accorded musical honours. The Wembley Club's fortnightly dance was held on Monday in St. Mary's Memorial Hall and was a great success.
