In consequence ot tho oontention that too many outpido matches are being played to tho prejudice of local club matches, a theory which tee found echo in other places as well as Wellington, tho Wellington Rugby Union decided this season to connne its attention to chib matches. Only one or two representative matches have been played oo far, audi in each cape practically a junior team baa been put in tho field. According to one authority, the result of these tactics has been exactly tbo opposite of what was expected. It is claimed' that never before has eo little interest been taken in club matches, end not for many yoajs has the standard of play here been so low. Against this may be urged tho fact that for eleven successive rain fell every Saturday and kept the public away, but it is a fact that no Wellington side has h*d any practice together and in tho representative matches now coming on tiio men will be entirely raw and without combination. This is contrasted with tho numerous games the Auckland and. ELawke's Hay men have bad the opportunity of playing.
