ROUGH RIDING.
UNCOMFORTABLE AMBULANCES. "I've never had a comfortable ride in an. ambulance" confessed Dr. Borrie at the meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association last night, and from other remarks made by members it appears that a patient's troubles are certainly not over till be is tucked in bed at hospital. The secretary, Mr C. J. Treleaven, brought on the discussion by remarking that a man had coine to him and said: "What sort of instrument of torture is your ambulance. I to the hospital with my wife in it." Mr Treleaven wondered what could be done to make the ambulance more comfortable. The chairman, Lieut.-Colonel Creawell: Make them fly. Mr H. J. Hoddinott: I've seer, every ambulance in New Zealand, and I ain satisfied that ours are two of the best in the country. Colonel Creswell: I don't think we can do much unless the City Council fixes up all the roads. Dr. Louisson said he thought the Association might try the new ballcon tyres on the ambulance. They would be less expensive, and as they acted as cushions, they were bound to improve the vehicle. Mr Treleaven: The most uncomfortable ride I ever had in mv life was in an ambulance. It's not Mr Hoddinott's fault-, for he is always trying to improve the machine, but it is much easier to ride in a motor-car. Dr. Borrie: I've never had a comfortable ride in an ambulance. Dr. Louisson: Thev were all the same in England when the war was on. Colonel Creswell suggested that the body of the ambulance might be made lighter, but Dr. Louisson said that a light body would never last. The matter of the balloon tyros was left in tho hands of Mr Hoddinott.
