DISASTROUS FIRE.

The sugar of milk factory at Edendale, 23 miles north-east of Invercargill. was found to" be on fir© at 8.30 this evening. Tho building was burnt to the ground. The fire was first noticed in the office. The flames spread with alarming rapidity, and soon demolished the "building, which, with the plan*, was valued at £8(5,000. Much of the plant was recently erected.
Fortunately there was no wind, and the dairy factory alongside was not damaged. The blaze was visible for many miles around, and there was quite a rush of farmers to tho scene in cars.
Only the boilers were saved, the factory being otherwise completely destroyed. Tho insurances are said to total £40,000, but there are no details. The destruction of the plant will have a serious effect on the dairying industry, as the factory had just been renovated in preparation for the new season.
