HEATHCOTE,
.The Heathcote County Council met last night. Present—Crs. C. Flavell, A. H. Adams, "W. Kerr, J. H. Moore, B. Eiley, V. W. Scarff, ajid Mr O. Machattie. countj clerk. It was agreed that the chairman be the Council's representative on the committee. With regard to the ventilation of Cashmere sewer mains, it was decided to put in 4-inch vents where required. The Aranui Burgesses' Association wrate regarding the speeding of drivers of motor vehicles on Page's road, and stating that time and again the members had complain ed of the nuisance, and asking if it wou.d not be possible to make a uepression or eome such equivalent on each side of Breeze's road to break the speed. It was decid-d that the matter be_ referred to the police. Mr G. "W. Hargreaves, Prosser's rond, St. Martin's, wrote complaining about the way henvy truffle persisted in using the wrong B'de of the road. The chairman said that in his opinion Mr Hargreaves was quite right, and he thought that a- letter should be sent to the roanagerof tho company. Several councillors spoke etrongly against the behaviour of the drivers, and said that it was "not a fair thing." Ii was decided to write to the manager of the G'enmore Brick Company drawing his attention to the mntfer. An appjication for permission to erect a small store and tea room combined at the I foot of Mount Pleasant road: known on the map as Major Honnibrook's road, was refused. Cr. The committee also wrote regarding the IJiv?r Conservancy Buard, stating that Cr. T.iify' had been deputed to acquaint the Council with the proposals contained in the Br.:, etc. Cr. niiey acquainted the Council with the proposa's, and it was subsequently decided to support the Bill. The inspector reported that the lino of cfcan.ifeTs in Page's road had been altered to a;.width of lift Gin, in order to obtain ' • a straigb.lv k?rb and to clear ,the tramway poles. - The. Bveeze's road loan work., was ■ about completed and was a decided improvement. - The drainage at Bowenyale road' was' in a, very bad state. ' and the- present channels and drains could not control the w'ate'r. He recommended that the Council ins>-ect this drainage on or after a <vet day. The report wns, adopted. RANGIORA. The Rangiora County Council met yesterday, the members present being: Sir F. Horrell (chairman), and Crs. \V. Stalker, M. C. Ormandy, G. K. Oryscll, H. Garrett, H. Talbot, and A. Mcintosh. The Finance Committei reported the receipts ior- the month. 10 have been £llß9 14 J 9a, including electric current £927 os 2d, refund ior pulling willows £196 lis 2d, electrical connexions £-20 lbs 3d, and_rat-s 19s 3d. A deputation from-the Woodend Progress I/.ague applied for the kerbing. channelling and asphalting of footpaths in Wood-nd, and also for the claying of a port'on of th:. road leading to the beach- A grant of £lO was msde towards the claying, if done in a satisfactorv manner, and tlw deputation was informed that the footpath work would b2 considered' if th; Council was assured ths owners of properties would be prepare'to'pay half the cost. , Auth-rity was received from the Wairaa-. kariri River Trust to levy the necessary rate on behalf of the Trust. , The Rangiora Town Manager wrote that Mr E P B Wicks had resigned the position of electrical engineer, for the Borougii and County.
