A Press Association message from Dimedin stntea that at a meeting of representatives of trade unions to discuss a circular from the Minister of Labour dealing with internal administration of a union, a resolution was carried "that Section 3 of the Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act already provides for the keeping of union accounts in an efficient and simple manner, and suggestions from the Minister can only be regarded as irritating, vexations and uncalled for. We cannot T-ecognue the Government's right to interfere with internal business of unions and deplore the action of the Minister in endeavouring to introduce by legislation anything that will interfere with the liberty of any individual union or association." Regarding the circular from the Commissione'r of Taxes, asking for the names and addresses of members of a union it was decided to enter an emphatic protest against "the commissioner's endeavour to have the unions do work which rightly belongs to his Department." "The Empire could do without many of its pohtic.ans," ssiid the Prime Mui lstei Hon. Mr Jlassey, at the dinner to Captain Boue this week, "but it could not do without th© mercantile men." he added.
