DRAINAGE CONTRACTS.
o PROPOSED CO-OPERATIVE PARTIES. CONFERENCE ARRANGED.
As an outcome of the meeting held in the Trades Hall on Tuesday night to consider matters relating to the suggestion that co-operative parties of workers should take up some of the contracts for the extension of the drainage system to the outlying portions of the city, the secretary of the Drainage Board (Mr C. F. Champion) received the following letter, signed "H. Worrall," yesterday morning:— "A meeting was convened and held last evening in the Trades Hall, Gloucester street, the object being to discuss the proposals of the Drainage Board that groups of workers should take up contracts on a co-operative basis in connexion with this drainage scheme. Various propositions were brought forward and discussed, and proposals were finally agreed upon and a committee set up authorised to approach the Drainage Board and lay the same before them. With this object in view I have been requested to communicate •with you requesting that your Board meet this committee in conference at an early date: and if it meets with your approval, to suggest to-morrow, Thursday, July 17th. at 3 p.m., as a suitable date and time. In the event of this date not being suitable, would your Board kindly fix a date as early as possible t" . ... It was found impracticable to hold the conference to-day as suggested, and it has been fixed for Tuesday next at 3 p.m. _____________
