Personal. According to a cable message reoeived from Mrs ,E. W. Brown, she and Master Brown arrived at Southampton by the Arawa on Saturday last and were met by relatives nnd motored up to Northampton, where they arrived on Monday. Concert. There was a crowded house at the Oddfellows' Hall last evening, when a concert was given in aid of the Catholic Presbytery Renovation Fund. The programme was well arranged and proved most enjoyable. Pianoforte duets were played by Misses M. M. Williams and M. Bald; recitations were given by Mr Frank MoDonald; a violin solo by Miss Freda Moir with . piano accompaniment by Miss K. MoConville; songs by Miss I. Round, Mrs T. Dalton, and Mr W. Toomey, while comic songs by Mr Phil Jones were an outstanding feature of the programme. Dance. A. danoa organised by Mesdameß A., Swaby and E. Muxlow in aid of the flower stall at the Spring Flower Show was held in the Trinity Schoolioom on Tuesday night. There was an attendance of over one hundred, and an enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, competitions and mußic. Mr S. Trodennick was M.C., and the music for the dancing was provided by Miss E. Muxlow and Mr C. Tulloch, extras being played by Miss B. Dale. A lucky-spot waltz was won by Mrs Davis and Mr E. Martin. A. wnltring competition was judged by Mrs M. Barnes, who awarded the prize to MisS M. Muxlow and Mr C. Murray. Ladies and gentlemen's tie-tying competitions wer ■won by Mrs Barraclough and Mr Norris, Mrs Matthews and Mr Arnold and Mr and Mrs F. ; Rcberton. During the evening a song was given by Mr A; Swaby, a vocal duet by Misses M. Ifobertfion and E. Muxlow, and a piano du'et by Misses E. and M. Muxlow. Part _ songs and glees were given by the Kilwinning Ladies' Glee Party, consisting of Misses Bell, D. Swaby, L. Arneson, E. Muxlow, Me d-imes A. Swaby, W. Watson, ,E. MuxJo v, Bell, A. Geddes, Matthews and Merrie'field, conducted -by Mr A. Swaby. Magistrate's Court. Mr.H. Y. Widdoweon, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yeßterday. Jack' Chrrlea Hancox was charged that on or about September, 1922, aftei; the commencement* of the Arms Act, 1920, being a person in possession of a firearm, to wit, a Colt six-chambered revolver, he did change his place of abode' from Station House, Opawa, Christchurch, to 12 . Cunningham terrace, Lyttelton, and did fail before , removing or within six. clear days thereafter to give notice of the same in writing and forward the certificate of registration. to the nearest' authorised office in the district.
De'endant. in pleading guilty, said that he had had the weapon stored' away for a number of years, and never gave the Vegulations a thought.- He had given the revolver, together with a pea-rifle, to his ■brother, whom he advised to notify the police of the transfer, hence the prosecution. , The Magistrate 'oonvicted and ordered accused to' pay costs. . Plunket Society. The July meeting of the Plunket Society was held at, the P'.unket rooms. Present— Mesdameß B. H. Gilmour (president), L. A. "Waters (secretary), E. Wi'son, J. Preston, .J, Stewart, J. F. Stanley, T. Hendry, Buchanan. ,J. N. Greenland, and W. T. Lester. An offer by Mrs H. R. Smith to bring her "Pom Pom Pierrot'* party to LytteHon and give an entertainment in aid of the fund for the Mothers* Cottage, at Karitane, was accepted with thanks. It was decided to hold the concert at the Harbour Li?ht Theatre on July 31st. It was also decided to hold an At Home for mothers everv third Friday in the month, at the Y.W.C.A. rooms.
