The annual meeting of the National Dairy Association and the conference oi the North Aucklar.d-dairymcn are proceeding, 500 farming representatives attending tho two functions. , At the North Auckland conference, Mr A. Morton was re-elected chairman, and tho retiring executive was-also' re-elected. A comparative statement of freezing charges on butter and cheeae in July last showed that tho Auckland charges in every case were less than in other centres. Owing to :'- losb having been made on cheese, an increaso in freighting rates was considered. It was resolved that in view of the extra clerical work entailed by business people obtaining orders on suppliers' cheques, the Government be asked to exempt co-operative dairy companies ircin tho .main Act and allow companies to cam- on their legitimate business without being made a debt collecting agency for the benefit of outside people.
Other remits carried were: That dairy factory directorates be the voting for the election of members of tho Dairy Control Board. That the Dairy Control Act should provide for the election of a dairy council of thirty members, namely, twenty from tho Aorth Island and ten from the South Island, ek-cted by the dairy factory directorates m each provincial and sub-provincial district as a wider presentation, of the industry for con- ' puliation with the Control Board upon any ' matter lor -which the Board called it into conference. That tho matter of tho depreciation of factory plant and equipment be brought . under tho notice of the Commissioner of ; Taxes with a view of having a uniform and ' 'cquitible scale allowed in the income tax return. ' I Mr t\. Morten was re-elected chairman.
