COWBOYS AT WEMBLEY.

STEER-ROPING CONTEST.

(8Y CABLE—MESS ASSOCIATION COPYMOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N-Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, June 16. Sixty thousand witnessed the accident at the Rodeo contests on Saturday, when the steer broke its leg, and they immediately commenced hooting and hissing. Directly the cowboys realised the position a pistol shot rang out and the steer dropped dead. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is applying for summonses in connexion with the matter, and has telegraphed to the Prime Minister protesting against the continuance of the performances. Mr J. B. Cochran, the promoter, has announced that steer-roping will be discontinued in public, but will ' be continued privately till the championship is settled, "in order to keep faith with the cowboys, 80 of whom have entered for the competition.
