toBB6 ASSOCIATION TJXttOBUt.) THAMES, June 14. The Governor-General had a rousing reception yesterday, when the afternoon was devoted to a long programme i lasting towards midnight. At the opening of. the new maternity' annex Lord Jellicoe eulogised the Hospital Board's foresight in the matter of coping with , the . position of tthe large maternity mortality. He spent over an l hour conversing with patients in the public hospital. The nursing staff entertained him at afternoon tea. ' At a conversazione in the evening he Expressed a wish that the farmers of the district, who were suffering so terribly from floods, would be enaoled to win out. He stated that he was particularly interested in the fishing industry, as that section bred-sailors, who in this island Dominion were necessary to carry produce Home, and'be ready to defend trade against an enemy. ,He referred to,the pleasure he experienced on a previous visit, which > was on Anzac Day. He hoped tho Anzac spirit would ever live. ■ , , At a supper, attended by prominent local body members, the, GovernorGeneral referred to lack of religious teaching to children,'whicK, seemed to have become less since the war. He hoped this would be deepened and intensified in tho future. The children of the Dominion were a sturdy lot, and he hoped they would up in the same spirit as "their forefathers. "He regretted his departure from New Zealand, whose people had taken both himself and Lady Jdllicoe to their hearts. It had been a real pleasure to "be amongst them to witness such intense loyalty. This morning his Excellen'cy held an. inspection of cadets, and presented "The -Weekly Press" Shield; There was a large concourse present.
