Notes ob the Bacing. i The opening event, the Eosehili Handi- ! cap, was * poor conteat, «ul resorted m «a easy win for Greywood, a. gelding by Ard Cairn from * Young Irringtoa care, oxted and trained in South Canterbury. At no stage of the race w »* H.- 6 * tended, and finally he *on with wmetning in hand from Boldrepark, M 133 Chudletgn; and Cora, tha othera being strung out. Winsome Melody, a 5-year-old mare oy Brest Locasda from Kitty C, was seen to wwtasre in tea Ladies' Bracelet- Over the last fou- iarlonp she wa3 racin- in close conDanv with Colonel Mac, Ksocilyn, and Beady Reckoner, but when it came to the strugsie she esaily outstayed het op--3onent=. Colonel Mac paced a good race, but Heady Reckoner mixed her gait more than once,' otherwise she Tould have finiaaed c!o=er up than third. Knccilyn led -or » ndlc, and looked a winner, bat tailed to Hannui, Lord Clan, Headier end Logan Chief declined their engagements in the Methven Trotting Cap, leaving eleven starters. The race provided plenty of inteir est, and when three parts of the journey nad been cohered Whetu, Logic, Lady ilinto, and Annerley formed the leaders, with Busier at the head of the others. Entering tea straight the field closed -up. lady Jfiato and Annerley dropped back, and Hustler improved his position. A furlong from come Whetu and Logic were under pressure, and siushing strongly on the outside of the _-sld. Hustler went on to win by a. coup.e o: lengths from Wfcelu. Then came Logio and Annerley. The vrinEer Hustler is a five-year-old pacer by Kerrwood from Waliacc-oa, dam of First Carbine. He u owned by Mr J. Moor, jun., a patron of A. Hendriksea a stable, and the oerformaace was a smart one. For a three-year-old "VFhctu paced a good race, and ehe should- improve with age. B. McDonnell's candidate Logio was always amongst the leaders, but when it- came to the busineas end of the race the eon_ of Brent Locacda and Eminence was left without a final run. Annerley finished fourth, with 'Wicklov,- Boy, who wa3 slow in getting into his stride, at, the head of the others. Seven saddle horses faced the starter in tha Biverbank Handicap, and after a good ra?e, in which Royal Arcade, Locanda Bell, Whe'.u, and Brent Junior were prominent throughout, the won with little in hand from Locacda Beil. The winner's success was freely anticipated, as be went a good race at Ash'ourion a week previously,' finishing second to Bruce in the Trial Handicap. Locanda Bell outstayed Whetu, who was probably feeling the. effects of tho, hard race she had in the Cap. Brent Junior looked a winner a hundred yardß from home, when he broke, and was beaten out of a place. • Gold liigger; whose name was omitted from the official card, easily disposed of eight others in the Drayton Handicap-. On the limit, be began smartly, and led from start to finish, trotting a solid race throughout. For Hia win early in the day Greywood was penalised 72 yards. At bbe stige of the rice he looked like overhauling the winner, but brolo badly, end before nettling down lost what chance of winning he posaeaaed. ■Wcowner plodded along into third place, followed by Eileenwood, yho did noE race op to expectation.' Lauristbn, a five-year-old. gelding by Brent Locanda from Eulogy, registered a ,pmart performance in. the JR. Harding Handlt cap, and won nicely from Nagol Pointer and Annerley. The winner, Lauriston, ..is a speedy paoer, but it is doubtful whether he will be sepii to advantage oyer a journey. Nagol Pointer did not race generously, and was inclined to bore at the turns. Annerley and "Whetu finished third and fourth respectively, with GlaucU3 and Wicklow Boy at the head of the othera. The Mt. Hutt" Handicap was run in a heavy shower of rain,' and resulted; in I«ccaßda. Bell winning by a narrow margin .from the Leejtori-owned and trained gelding Wirey, this making heir second appearance for the. day. Locanda 801 l is trained at AddingtOn by her owner, W. J. Smith. She was_ nicely handicapped, having won in 2m 19 2-ss, and was placed on the 2m 24s mark. Of the" others, Don Locanda and* Lyonwood made the best ebowicg, but w&e always safely hekf by Locanda Bell and ."witty.
