MOWING MACHINE ACCIDENT.

CITY COUNCIL PAYS £550. This City Council lias agreed to pay £550 damages, as compensation for injuries which a three-year-old child, Dbrothy , Mary,, Ritchie, received through running into a mowing machine. The accident occurred at Canon street, St. Albans. A Council employee was cutting the grass on the footpath with a horse-driven mower, when the child ran out of a gate and was caught by the long blade. One of her legs was injured. The case was set down for Hearing at,the Supreme Court yesterday, But it was announced, that a settlement had been reached "utside. Archibald Henderson Ritchie, as guardian' ad litem, sued the City Council for £lOl6 6s 6d damages. The case was not called on for hearing, the sum of £550 having been accepted in settlement of the claim. Mr C. S. Thomas with him Mr E. W. White, appeared for plaintiff, and Mr M. J. Bresson for the City: Council.
