MASTERTON THEFTS.

ADDITION TO THE LIST. (SfBCUI. TO "THE PBXSS.') MASTERTON, May 30V The longlist of burglaries perpetrated on Masterton shopkeepers during the last. 18 months was added to early yesterday morning, an entrance being effected to'the sports depot and tobacconist shop of L.; A. Wadham, iri Queen-street.'The miscreant entered W til© front door, which was prised open with a jemmy, leaving similar impressions on the woodwork around the door, to those noticed in previous I burglaries. It i 3 presumed that the thief made a hurried visit to the shop for had he been intent on removing | much plunder, the large stock which the shop carried offered wide scope an 4 variety. Instead, he was content to «ake abont five pounds in cash, a quantity of tobacco, and several pipes and raeora, whito) the hulk 'of the larger and more valuable .stock was untouched. The premises were visited by a riightwatchman at 2 a.m., and were quite intact then, but on arrival at eight o'clock the proprietor found the front door ajar. The circumstances of the crime suggest that it is another success of the cracksman, whose < uninterrupted career during the ' past eighteen months has been the cause of much anxiety to business men. The fact of the street lights being twitched off at 11 o'clock provided an' excellent cloak fdr the thief to work under.
