BALCAIRN. A meeting of the Kowai Rabbit Destruction Association was held in the Kowai .County Council Chambers, Balcnirn, on' Wednesday.' It was gratifying to the committee to note that the Articles-of the Association had been already signed by a number of ratepayers. A hearty vote of thanks was., passed to Mr F.-W. Johnston for warning from Christehurch to help the Association in its initial stages. After some discussion, it was finally agreed to appoint a sub-eommittoo, consisting of Messrs W. Irigle,-»J. Fitzpatrick, and F. H. Courage to consult chemists and experts with regard to the best poisons to be. used■■■ and: the most effectual method to be employed. If the right bait in a suitable form be s«.seertaine'd and procured, it is proposed to have stocks of it stored in convenient places throughout the country to facilitate its delivery to ratepayers.

OXFORD. The annual meeting of parishioners in the parochial ilistrict of Oxford, was held on Tuesday. Tho vicar (Rev..B. G. FoxY presided. The statement of accounts showed that tho yesir had ended with a credit balance of £B(S 5s 6d. The vicar gave an outline of the year's work, and reported that the progress in the Sunday Schools had been very encouraging. A fresh Sunday School had been started at Carleton under Mr Roberts and Miss Dohrmann as teachers. ,The outstanding event of the year had been the .Mission of Healing. The Archbishop had visited Oxford in September, and held a confirmation service, at which 36 candidates had been confirmed. The Rev. Dr. Fox (brother of the ViearV and, the Rev.' W. J. ]>urrad had ..also visited Oxford during the. year, arid liad given ltintern .lectures on the work, of the Melanesiari Mission. BELFAST. The Belfast School Committee me| on Tuesday. Presents Mr W. P. Spencer (cfiairman), Mesdames W...P.' Spencer and E. Harris, Messrs T. Norton, W. Price, K. Belcher, "W. Skidmore, and A. E. Lawn. An apology was received for the absence of Mr B. Graham. The headmaster reported a roll number of 236 with an average' attendance of 218.3. The sum of £2 was voted for sports materials. An award of 30s was received from the agricultural agent of the Board for improvements in the schpol gardens, accompanied with congratulatory remarks regarding the organisation good taste of the headmaster,' Mr Moore. The money will be spent on the gardens and tools for same. The inside of the infant school will be painted during' the holidays. It was resolved to apply to the Board for new out offices, cupboards, dual desks, and. ■ladders, also to have the swings overhauled. Cprrcspondence was • received from the Papanui School Committee regarding a dental clinic. Messrs-Spen-cer, Morton, and Lawii: were appointed to attend a.meeting<-at Papanui regarding same. It was decided to hold euchre party and dance on May 31st in the Main School. •

At the recent householders' meeting eulogistie remarks were passed to Mr B. Harris, who was unable'j to seek, reelection on account of ill-health. Mr Harris has been a member of the committee fori the past 22 years, "and was ■a most ardent committeeman. He has been the donor of the dux. medal for the past seven years, and has also presented the school with a. dux honours board. His fellow-cpmmitteemen expressed sincere regret at his retirement, and wished him a-speedy recovery. A vote of thanks for past'services was passed by the householders with acclamation.

OKAIN'S BAY. The annual meeting of the parishioners, of St. Johns,' O'Kairi's Bny, was hud in the hall on Tuesday. The Bw. K. -1-1. Thorpe presided. The annual report was read.and confirmed., A .satisfactory state of finance, there being a small credit balance, was shown by the balance sheet. On belialf of the parishioners, £lr \V ' Robinson welcomed ,J«r Thorpe to the district., and remarked on the spirit Mr Tliorpe had shown, in taking charge of such an extensive parish, extending, as it; does irom Port Levy to Le lion's Bay. He hoped that his stav amongst them would be «i pleasant and profitable one. In rephv the vicar thanked Mr Robinson for his kind remarks, and assured him that with the co-operation- of ' theparishioners ho hoped to do good work in the district.. LEESTON. The success that attended the Leeston Wesley Guild's opening social, held on Wednesday night, augurs -well for ftsuccessful series of weekly meetings. There was a good attendance, and the evening passed very pleasantly. Songs vrero contributed by Miss AI. Eade and Messrs G. Bums, and L. W. Hewitt, several competitions were held, the, winnera being Misses R. Austin and M. iade, and Messrs A.. Brown and R. isarnett. Supper was served by the ladies. A comprehensive syHabus has oeen_ drawn up and copies have been distributed amongst the members. The meetings promise to ,bo . unusual]v interesting.

PENDARVES. A euchre tournament was held in the hall,by the Hall Committee. The attendance was good and the interest very keen. Mr A. P. Bruce supervised the games. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs R. Grice with 126 points, Miss Chapman being second with 121 points, and Miss-K. Hampton" third with 120 points.- The gentlemen's prize was won by Mr T. Templeton with 144 points,. Mr C. H. Hampton, being second with 135 points, and Mr L. Scott third with 126 points. A dance was afterwards held, for which Mr Eric Rankin provided the music, assisted by Miss Rena Watson and Miss Ethel Malcolm. Mr J ; Lambie was M.C. Supper was provided by the ladies.

RAKAIA. At;a meeting of the Rakaia Tennis Club, Dr. Sheffield presiding, it was reported that arrangements had been made to hold the dance, which had been indefinitely' postponed, on June 12th. The offer of the Misses Holmes to provide the music was accepted with thanks.

CHERTSEY. A euchre tournament was held in the hall, the attendance being fair. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs H. Murchie with 136 points, Miss Clara McKee being second with 128 points. The gentlemen's prize was won by Mr, Andrew Doig with 142 points, Mr H. .Murcbjjs being second with 134 points. A short dance followed, for which Mr J. Behfens provided the music, Mr H.
