Protests again6t emigration of chil-, dren apart from their relatives to the Dominions were made by delegates to" the National Conference Women now being held in London. • , The conference passed a resolution urging the stoppage of such emigration until comp.etely satisfactory , plans have been made-to ascertain the children's own inclinations and supervise them after arrival.
The. conference passed a resolution urging the Minister, of Health to appoint a committee to enquire into the care- exercised in maternity cases, to investigate the physical and social effects of (various, methods of birth control, and to recommend a scheme, to make the best advice available to women desiring it. ■ '••_ The conference passed a resolution that the school age should be raised Ho 16 years, in order to prevent the annual' flooding of the ~Jabour • market by 600,000 14-year-old children. Miss Susan Lawrence, M.P., said the waste or child life was getting on'the national conscience, which condemned the placing of children in industry at the most susceptible age, wh«n their character was being formed and their intellect was developing.
