EMPIRE WIRELESS.

NEGOTIATIONS WITH CABINET.
(BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION COPTMOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, May 13. It is understood that fresh conversations are proceeding between Cabinet and Marconi, Ltd., in which the latter has made definite proposals for co-oper-ation between the Government and the company, either on the Australian principle or by a pooling agreement. It is believed that the company has offered the Government the full use* of the new beam system, whereby, on the searchlight principle, the company claims to bo able to transmit Empirewide messages at the greatest speed and with the utmost accuracy. Stations established fo'r this system will cost approximately £50,000, compared with £500,000 for the present highpower stations. This comparative cheapness, it is contended, will enable all portions of the Empire to erect stations, whereas the cost of stations of higher power might be prohibitive to lesser Administrations. Marconi claims that under the new system Australia, South Africa, and India will be in direct communication with sßritain for at least seven to *l2 hours daily, enabling the company to deal efficiently with all commercial traffic likely to offer in the future.
