COUNTY COUNCILS.

MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of the.. Mount Herbert County Council was held on Monday last, in the Council Chambers, Purau. Present— Cra. A. E./Williams (chairman), J. A. Gellety, W. H. Firmston, E. A. Harkess," R. A. Anderson, C. A. Pope, R. I. Candy, and Reg. Gehbio. ;•'.'• The Land and Survey Department wrote granting the Council permission, to annex a~ small strip of lend at the Horseshoe bend on the Dyer's Pass road in order to obtain a better curve at this point.- Tenders were opened for this work, and that of Mr Arch. Small was accepted. The Board of. Health wrote drawing, attention to the ,n«'w; regulations governing the disposal of refuse and urging constant attention to this matter, clerk.was requested •to : P»y periodical visits throughout the county. The Piako County • Council wrote uTging' the _' Council to request the Minister of Agriculture to frame fresh regulations regarding the foot and mouth disease now bo prevalent in England, pointing out the. many ways, that the disease may be imported into this country. The Council favourably considered the request, and the clerk was instructed to write to the Minister urging more stringent regulation, '.and a more vigilant watch on imported 6tock. The Counties Association, Wellington, wrote urging the •■ Council to prohibit the unsightly practice of hoardings on the roadsides in country districts. The matter was approved. The Okain's Road Board wrote asking the Council to send delegates to a conference to consider the erection of road lights where required on the Peninsula, as it would be'better to consume more power and thus reduce the rating. The Council approved of the conference. The Hospital Board wrote stating that th"e County's levy this year would be £786 \la Id, being £46 less than the previous year. The Women's Progressive Club, wrote pointing out the increase in the number of motor-cars using the Beach road, and hoping that the Council • would be more vigilant in ;seeing that the by-laws were observed; The clerk was. instructed to reply that if the. number of the offending car was-taken, and handed to the clerk, a prosecution would follow.' *■'■' '" 'Mr- Albert Pope, PoTt Levy, wrote drawing the Council's attention to the removal of-fi wire fence on bis land, by the contractor when Obtaining metal for the Council. The -clerk, was instructed to interview the contractor on the; matter. ■ j ;■ . Messrs K. I. Candy and. C. D t . Smith we're given - permission to ' vrect telephone, poles along the road to Camp-bay. The financial, statement showed a debit balance of .'£l9B, and rates' outstanding £9B Is Id. The clerk was instructed'-to sue for all outstanding rates if not paid within \M days.-,:
