COUNTY COUNCILS.

MOUNT HERBERT. The monthly meeting of the.. Mount Herbert County Council was held on Monday last, in the Council Chambers, Purau. Present— Cra. A. E./Williams (chairman), J. A. Gellety, W. H. The Piako County • Council wrote uTging' the _' Council to request the Minister of Agriculture to frame fresh regulations regarding the foot and mouth disease now bo prevalent in England, pointing out the. many ways, that the disease may be imported into this country. The Council favourably considered the request, and the clerk was instructed to write to the Minister urging more stringent regulation, '.and a more vigilant watch on imported 6tock. The Counties Association, Wellington, wrote urging the •■ Council to prohibit the unsightly practice of hoardings on the roadsides in country districts. The matter was approved. The Okain's Road Board wrote asking the Council to send delegates to a conference to consider the erection of road lights where required on the Peninsula, as it would be'better to consume more power and thus reduce the rating. The Council approved of the conference. The Hospital Board wrote stating that th"e County's levy this year would be £786 \la Id, being £46 less than the previous year.
