In spite of the. tact that the organisation had been in existence tor 35 years, tne general public hardly' knew it. The Postniaster-Ueneral had been, asked to agree to tne~. principle embodying the 1914 standard-in the scneduies, but he iiud ignored that 'principle, and' had chosen other dates. The Bpeafcer went into fetalis and hguxes showing the financial .position of the officers of tne Association as compared with the cost of living in 1914, and declared that the public was sympathetic towards their demands. .They .were still waiting to negotiate with the Postmaster-General. They were forced to seek-the aid of the poli-. tician to further their interests/ " Ah' em-: bargo had been placed.on affiliation-with the Alliance' of . Labour.. When' the. embargo was lifted the Service would-.go ahead with it, said the speaker, if that was desired.
