The annual meeting of the Makura Croquet Club was held yesterday, Mrs D. Tennent presiding over a good attendance. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Captain, Mrs H. Smith; de-' puty-captain, Mrs D. Teiinent; hdn. secretary, Mrs T. E. , Say well; lion, treasurer, Mrs F*. W. Shallcrass; committee, Mesdames H. H. Allison, M. J. Fogarty, D. McKay, and Simmons. l
Ngahere's Crew Paid Off. The crew of the wrecked Ngaherc were paid off tp-day by the ' Union Steam Ship 'Company. Evidence of the; esteem in which Captain Green and his officers are held by the crew was furnished when the ship's company gathered to-day at the Customs office. Hearty cheers were given by the men for their officers, who responded. .To-night the crew met and presented Captain Green with a case of pipes, and the first officer, Mr J. H. Miller, was also the recipient of a token conveying the esteem of hia shipmates.
Aeroplane Goes South. Provided the weather is suitable, the Avro aeroplane will leave for Hokitika, where the week-end will be spent, prior to the departure of the aviators and their machine for Canterbury. It has. not yet' been decided whether an attempt will' be made to fly over the Alps. • • Ladies' Hockey. •'■ ■ ./f.'. .■ Two hockey matches were played on the Coast this atternoon. jtfiajcetdw'n juniprs were defeated at Hokitika by the home team by "three ggals, to mi.
