MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening. Prefient: Messrs S. F. Wilson (chairman), A. E. McPhail, G. P. Payne, It. W. iSritton, R. H. North, W. Maxwell, A. Dey, J. K. Maloney, C. S. McCully, W. Britten, W. Duggan, E. Y. Phillips, and Dr. W. S. Seed. Defaults. The Spreydon Club wrote fltating that the ( team was at the rauway station last Saturday weeK ready to go to Rat.giota,- and some oi tho memoeie had taken tickets when th'oy heard matches were otf. It piotested • 'against losing the match by default. The' 'rel'erae, ' Mr K.. H. Perrih, had written that it was annoying to fihd iio team, reteiring io thp Spreydon team, after he had' hurried to get away. It took all the cream out of refeie'eing. It was decided to lorward' a copy of the letter of the Spreydon Club to Mr Pcrrin. Mr Wilson stated that lie had understood from the Referees' Association that the referees would not act if the Union did hot take hi. me action and adequately punish defaulting teams. Mr Dey ,bore, out Mr Wilson's statement.; Mr Payne said .that there, was some misunderstanding owing to the flag on the City . Hutel •-not-.;bting. lowered on .a recent . wet Saturday when there .were a number, of defaults.' Mr McPhail said.he'thought the Emergency Committee .should meet and there should be some official means of notification . : that games were off. ■ ;.' ' The Marist Case. Correspondence was • received from, the New Zealand Rugby Union asking for a report of., the- finding of -the Canterbury .Union in' re-> gard to the suspension of the Marist Cluh. .. Mr. Wilson said that when he was in Wellington he- had been asked' by Mr Dean to supply , a, copy of the account of the wash-up of. the Marist ■ case. ■ , He said that, the accounts - of the Management Committee meeting and the subsequent special general meeting of delegates, together '.' with the correspondence' tp..and froin the Marist* Club Bhould he sent'" to the New Zealand Union. ■ • ' ! It was decided to supply this information to the New Zealßnd ; Union. Sydenham in Trouble. On' .behalf of .the Sydenham Club,- Mr Bpitten-.said that-owing to accidents,' «nd other-rcauses the club would hire to aflk for pflimissrdh to 'withdraw its senior tetim. Each .Saturday, the 'greatest difficulty was experienced in' fielding ■ a team, and ; last Saturday a depleted team had had a cricket score registered against it. Sydenham had had an unfortunate time, as first of all it lost, players to Marists,' tind then to ' the League code. The. juniors were not nearly up to senior standard. It was with i mufih .regret (hat this, step .had been de- l cided upon. He asked the Union to take steps to provide games with some other | fclub for Gi'eatbatch, Giles, and Jeffries— J three Canterbury representative playejrs. | In the '• discussion that followed it was | iigreed that the weak Sydenham senior team i was not for tho good of football. Mr Dey moved. that the Sydenham Club be allowed to withdraw its senior team. The motion was carried.

With regard to the players named being transferred to other clubs, the chairman suggested that these players shoulll be. transferred' to, weaker clubs or club. Mr. Maxwell said that in the past it had' been • ruled that - players ■ could not turn out for two cluba in one season. In- the junior ranl.-s this i-ule had been enforced and it had the effect of driving • players out of tho, game. Mr Wilson said it was only the disgruntled player who wanted to go over to the other code. In this case three men were going to be debarred from playing football through no fault of their own. It, would be wrong for the Union to allow these men to be deprived of. their game. It seemed- best for the Union to allot the men to a weak club. Mr Dey said that as the men were graded seniors, they could not play in the Sydenham junior tenm. ' If tjiey were refused by the weak club to which they were <;ff?red. the men slimld be allowed to play f n " v "-"'"vi". r'ub thev themselves • liked. Mr Dey moved, and Mr McPhail seconded, that, if the Albion Club wou!d take any ot the -Sydenham Club's seniors who failed to be reinHnfed, th-y be transferred to that club. If Albion refused the men, they be allowed to p.ay for any club they chose. ' The motion was carried. With regard. to teams yet to meet Sydenham in the first round, it was agreed that they would receive their point by default.

Sub-Committee Reports. On behalf of the Competitions Committee, Mr Britten reported that us three teams had withdrawn from each of the Third urade "A" and : "B" Sections, the committee had had to inuke a fresa d.aw. It recommended that the pointj in the competitions so tar gained should stand, also that all matches in future be started at 2.4-3 p.m. ■ Mr Dey moved that the recommendations of the committee be adopted. The motion was carried. On behalf of the Finance Committee Mr Wilson reported on the meeting of the, committee with the Hospital Board in re--gord to a fresh air school for'the children's home on the Cashmere Hills. He explained that the Hospital Board would have to provide the school and the Education Board the equipment and teacher. The Union's Finance C mmittee thought that it would be an excellent thing for the Union to help the Hospital Board. The sum of £IOOO was required, and the Government would subsidise moneys raised £ for £. On behalf of the Finance Committee he moved that the proceeds of Charity Saturday this year bo devoted towards the erection of this school.

| The recommendation was approved. ; General. I The Peninsula Sub-Union WTote stating that Messrs V. Craw and J. Palmer would be the delegates to sub-union conference on July 30th. The Ashliurton County Sub-Union wrote ststing that it had accepted the Malvern Sub-Union's challenge for a Southbridge Shield match at Ashburton on Tuesday, June 3rd. The Southland Union wrote confirming- the date o? August 13th for the match Southland v. Canterbury; The South Canterbury Union wrot? con- , firming August 16th na the date of the i Canterbury-South Canterbury match, j for the annual U.S.A. • match between ' teams from Canterbury and Otago, it was decided to write to the Otago Union suggesting August 9th or 16th. Mr Payne moved that the. Weat Coast Union be written to asking if' a repre-

sentative team was being sent to Canterbury this season. A letter was received from the New Zealand Union asking that the Union bring its rules into conformity with those of the New Zealand Union. This matter was referred to the Finance Committee.

A letter was received from the. St: Martins Residents' Association asking that ( the Union, erect dressing rooms and conveniences on Waltham Park. . . . The chairman suggested that the Union put on a goad tenior game at the park, and that the proceeds be used to defray .the expenses of. erecting the conveniences. It waa decided to write to the. Association to this effect. ' Correspondence yrna received from the Locomotive Department, New Zealand Railways, asking for the use of a set of jerseys for next Saturday for the annual match against the Dunedin Locomotive Department. ■: The request waj granted subject to the jerseys being returned washed and clean. Mr Britten said that they had asked for a ground and referee at" 1.30. It we a decided to leave this matter ~ to the Competitions Committee. | A protest; waa received from the Dinwood | Football Club on behalf , of, its 3rd "B" team, against the referee's • decision iri the match against Canterbury College onMay 10th.
