SUMNER ITEMS.

Rodcliffs Mission Boom. A most successful concert was given in the Rcdcliffs Community Hall in aid of the" Sundav School building extension. Mrs Templar was responsible for arranging a very excellent programme, those contributing being Mrs McColviHe Misses Criehton, Sharp, Manhire,' Messrs Lightband, Woodward, and' Fawcett, arid Privates Hornsby, Townsend, and Grummett. All Saints'. Church. The vestry have in hand the matter of repairs to, and the re-roofing of, the church, and hope to make a start before the winter sets in. His Grace Archbishop Julius is to preach at All Saints Church to-morrow evening. Bannerdale Matters. The concert that was held last Thursday to procure funds for re-covering tho billiard table at Rannerdale resulted in over £l2 being handed to Mrs Templar, and the soldiers are very grateful to the committee who worked so hard to make the concert such a success. A dance is to be given shortly in aid of the same object. Sumner Marine Band. A start will be made soon with the erection of the band jroom., Under the supervision of Messrs Carter and Lawson, a working-bee will carry on every spare evening and Saturday afternoon until further notice. The learners' class is to commence next week, and applicants for an instrument should interview the conductor or secretary without delay. W.C.T.TT. In response to invitations from the executive of the W.C.T.U., a large number of ladies attended the special meeting this week. Afternoon tea was served, and the president gave an outline of some of the branch's activities. Mrs Don, the New Zealand president, then gave an address on the aims and ideals of the W.C.T.U. Musical items were contributed by Mesdames Cook R. Woolcock, and I. Wilson, and were' much appreciated. Eight ladies ■joined the local branch, and were initiated by Mrs Don. Mrs J. McCombs then announced that the meeting tor \pril would take the form of a garden party at "Brantholme," Head street, the residence of Mrs I. Wilson. Life-Saving. Interest in the weekly classes is being steadily maintained, and the work is progressing very favourably. The competition for the Sumner Cup takes place this afternoon. Five teams are competing. Mrs J. C. McDonald is in charge of the arrangements for the refreshments. *
