CITY COUNCIL'S EXPERIMENT. It is proposed to lay down with reinforced tar macadam that portion of Colombo street between Moorhouse avenue and the railway line. This particular piece of the roadway lias been built 011. a very bad foundation, and has been difficult to ..maintain satisfactorily. The Works Committee reported to the City Council last night that it is proposed to remove the surface to a depth of approximately 4in, grade to the correct shape, then lay a coating of tarred metal, roll this well, cover with reinforcing fabric, lay a further sheeting of tarred macadam with sin and gin screenings as a finishing coat to fill the mterstfees of the lUu sheeting. The surface would be then thoroughly rolled and finally tar-sealed. The approximate cost of this work will be £lal).
