PARADISE PLUMES.
ACCUSED IN COURT. (AUSTEALIAN AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received February 4th, 10.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 4. In connexion with the case in which Oliver John Thompson, 'stated to be a New Guinea Magistrate, is charged with taking out of the territory plumage of protected birds, namely, birds of paradise, the Crown applied for an order for Thompson to be Gent hack tp Now Guinea. Counsel for Thompson asked for a remand to enable an appeal to the Supreme Court. He said that the reports published in the newspapers regarding the case were exaggerated. Thompson was a man who controlled 25,000 natives in New Guinea. He had nevdr been arrested, iand when li<? found that the police were seeking him ho approached them himself and dared that the case was all some joke. A remaua for 14 days was granted, bail being reduced to £ot/0.
