Information from Winnipeg, Canada, is to the effect that a sale has taken place of 50,000 acres of cultivated farm land left vacant by the Mennonites of the Rossthorn, Sask. district, 'who have rone to Mexico. The svndicate that 'has acquired this area is said to have paid one million five hundred thousand dollars cash. This is one of the largest deals in land in Central Canada, and -was only terminated after four years' negotiations with the heads of the Rossthorn Mennonites. The Mennonites originated in Germany soon after the Reformation. They subsequently migrated to Russia, where the sect suffered persecution, which ultimately caused them to cross over to Canada. Once again the Mennonites migrated, this time to Mexico, where, it is stated, they nave heen promised absolute freedom from restrictions, which they objected to in Canada. The sect is a development from the Anabaptists, who were prominent shortly after Martin Luther's time.
