THE LATE MR WILLIAM F. WATSON.

AN APPRECIATION. H. W. J. writes:— A few hours ago I stood by his graveside, around the many of Lis friends, | old and young, rich and poor, Catholic I and Protestant, personal and business, I ali come to show the respect they bore him in- death as in life. Speaking as -one who has mourned him and worked with him since he'first came here as a young man, and speaking. I am sure, for hundreds of others who have had that privilege equally with' myself, I esteem it an honour to bear testimony to his unfailing good nature, to his natural .courtesy "and modesty,, and to his honesty, and uprightness in a business where smartness is sometimes somewr.at strained. As '-Willie - ' Watson, spoken almost in terms of endearment, he was known and liked over the-whole of-North-Can-terbury, and, m a well-knonn sheep dealer said to me at the graveside, J. am sure that he had not an er.emv.'
