Mr E. Harraway, IVurvedin, who has won five New Zealand bowling cham* pionships (singles and doubles) at different periods, leaves to-day by the express for the South.
Mr Richard W. Gibbs, who recently resigned from tho position of chief auditor of the Bank of New Zealand, has announced himself ne a candidate for th© vacant directorship of the bank.
Mrs J. A. Hanan and Mr J. Gilkison have been appointed as the nominees of the Government on the Southland High Schools Board of Governors in succession to the Hon. A. F. Hawke and Mr It. A. Anderson, who recently resigned. Mr J. M. Hickson left Invercargill by. motor-car on Thursday morning to spend a holiday at Manapouri. ho will subsequently visit Queenstown and will then proceed by car to Mt. Cook and then on to Timaru, where he will spend a few days with his relatives prior to leaving on his return to London.
Major F. Burton, Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army, in Wellington, is being transferred in a similar capacity to the ' Otago atid Southland district, with headquarters at I>unedin. Major Burton has. been in "Wellington on and off for about ten years, H-a commenced work with tho Salvation Army about 30 years ago.

A former report received and printed in. Nov.- Zealand, recorded his death. All who heard tho great singer will be pleased to know that the previous report had no foundation in fact.
Mr Robert W. Martin, manager and superintendent for Australasia of the Phoenix Assurance Company, Limited, has retired, after having held the position for the post 18 years.' Mr Martin's connexion with the Pliojnix Co. in Australia extends over the last 33 years, he having joined the service in Melbourne. Before taking the controlling appointment he was manager for Victoria for eight years.
