ATHLETICS AT ENGLISH PARK TO-DAY. Splendid entries have been, received for the big atliletio meeting to be held at Eng» lis>i Park to-day. Given a fino day tlio gathering should bo a great ~ success. On December Ist last the combined clubs hold a very successful sports meeting 1 , which was greatly enjoyed by the crowd. To-day's function should go just ofi os welL Tho main attration mil bo tha yctcfieaco of some of the beat athictes from Willington, who have journeyed down to run against the Canterbury Giub in a medley relay for a cup presented by Miss Jeanno iitevo* DMiiv Ol Wellington: This cup will be competed for annually. The northern team Will consist of Itowe, Guy, Bennett, and Jonkins, to run BSO, 440, 220, and 220 yards respectively. The Canterbury team -will he Taylor, Yates, Goodman and Maxwell. As Lewis will bo on his way to Hobart with the New Zealand team for the Australasian, championships his place will be taken by Maxwell. The members of both relay teams will compete in the various events on tho programme, so that neither, will have on advantage on the score of freshness. The field events promise to bo an attractive feature of the day. Ono of the best all-round jumpers in Wellington in the person of P. Gt. Thompson will be seen in action against Canterbury's be3t. Taylor, who won tho half mile championship of Wellington last Saturday, figures on tho scratch mark in the quart errand half mile events, so tho champion' 3 return to the track should invest theso race with particular interest. Largo entries have been received for. tho races in the ladies' sction. As Misa Maswell and Miss Grant have exceptional performances to their oredit, their meeting should produce fino running. Besides a comprehensive list of flat events there -will ba oycling, walking and various novelty items, such as the egg and spoon race, the thread the needle race and the sack race. It is tho aim of the committee to run off the events with the utmost expedition so that the interest and enthusiasm of the crowd will he maintained to the end, as was the caso on Decemlwsr Ist.
