Tides, It will bo high tide on the beach this evening at 7.29, and in the river at S.oD, and to-morrow at S.-i p.m. and 9.34 p.m. respectively. Domain Pete. At a meeting of residents to consider matters in connexion with the proposal to hold a fete in the Rawhiti Domain, it was decided that the function should be held on Saturday, March Ist, the proceeds to be handed to the Borough Council for the purpose of making improvements to the Domain. Representatives of sports bodies and clubs were elected a Management Committee as follows:—Messrs F. Palk (Cricket), P. Campbell (Hockey), A. Dey (Football), A. E. Purse (Croquet), F. D. Mcwson (Bowling), A. L. Tucker (Surf Club), G. W. Bishop (Miniature Rifle Club), G. Robinson (Tennis), W. McGce (Boating), J. Scott (Borough Council), and I. Montague (side-shows), witli power to add. It was decided to include the following items in the fete programme: —Putting competition, nail driving, Punch and Jl.dy show, shooting gallery, weight guessing, fairy fishponds, best decorated bicycle and pram, tug-of-war, box ball, hay shoots, races for boys, and girls, afternoon tea tents, ice-cream stal's, etc., and in the evening a torchlight procession in fancy costumes. Messrs Robinson and Purse were appointed an Advertising Committee. It was agreed that the Tramway Board should be asked to give the usual percentage, and to ask the Borough Council for permission to take up a collection at the Domain entrances. Mr Robinson was appointed collector and Mr J. McCreanor secretary."Queen Coronation." The coronation of Miss Essie Owlc-3 as Queen of the Carnival took place on Thursday evening. The proceedings were sadly marred owing to the disquieting news received by Mr A. W. Owlc's early in the day regarding his son, Mr George L. Owlcs. ' At the conclusion of the ceremony the Mayor, Mr J. Gamble, and Mr D. G. Sullivaii, M.P., expressed, on behalf of the residents of the borough and district, heartfelt sympathy with Mr and Mrs Owles in the news they had received. At the conclusion of these remarks two minutes' silence was observed. In spite of their great sorrow it was felt by Mr and Mrs Owles that the crowning ceremony should be gone on with. The crowning of the queen and investiture of the princess and other officials of State was carried out in accordance with old-time traditions, under the direction of Mr H. Sweney. Prior to the ceremony a select concert programme was given, the items-being: —Piano solo, by Miss D. Wicks; vocal solos, Mr and Mrs T. G. Rogers and Mr D. Bishop; recitation, Mr R. A. Turner; vocal ducts, Misses Betty and Tlielma Thompson; quartet, > Messrs S. J. Morgan, H. Blakely, K. More, and E. J. Johnson.- ,

Those who took part in the coronation ceremony were: —Queen-elect, Miss Essie Owles; ladies-in-waiting, Misses E. Kennard, Zena Drake, and Elma Edmonds; Princess' of South Brighton, Miss Gladys Weavers; ladies-in-waiting, Misses Elsie Sherwood and Margaret Hulme; Princess of North Brighton, Mrs Eva Hulme; ladies-in-waiting. Misses Minnie Taylor and Louie Stevens; court herald, Miss Innes. Honours list—Mr James Gamble (Lord High Chancellor), Earl of New Brighton; Mr A. W. Owles (Lord Comptroller .of the Royal Household); Mr Geo. "Weaver (Marquis of New Brighton); Mr' E. A. Leaver (Marquis of North Brighton); Mr A. Tucker (Knight Commander of her Majesty's Lifc'-Savitig Corps); Mr E. Summerfield (Knight Commander and Keeper of the Boyal Records); Mr William Hulme (Marquis of Pleasant Point) ; Mr W. A. Drake (Marquis of Central Brighton); Mr R. Snell (Knight Commander of her Majesty's Northern Foresters;) Mrs Bellamy (Countess of Central Brighton) ; Mrs Weavers (Countess of South Brighton) Mrs Ragg (Baroness of Central Brighton) ; Mrs Campbell (Baroness of South Brighton); Mrs Snell (Baroness of North Brighton); Mrs Gamble (Viscountess of New Brighton). A number of beautiful bouquets were presented during the course of the proceedings. Methodist Church. To-morrow, both ' services will be taken by the Rev. P. T. Read. The evening subject will be "The Greatest Coronation." Mr 3 Stallard (from St. Albans) will bo the soloist. At North Beach School the evening' service will be taken by Mr A. E. Lawry.

, Boy Scouts. A number of parents and friends assembled near the bridge on "Wednesday evening to welcome home . the scouts who, under Mr Bishop, scoutmaster, and liis assistant, Mr Scott, returned from their trek to Mount Cook. The boy 3 looked very fit as they drew their cart into the school ground. On behalf of the Troop Committee, the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble) presented Mr Bishop with a fountain pen, in recognition of the care taken by him of the boys. Mr Herrick, on behalf of the parents of the boys who had been on trek, presented Mr Scott with an Ever-pointed pencil. Both Mr Bishop and Mr Scott spoke of the Enjoyment of the trip and the kindnesses shown them on the way. The distance covered on the trelc was more than 300 miles.

Personal. Mr Frank Ward, who underwent an operation for appendicitis recently, is at home again and improving in health. Obituary.

On Thursday, Mr A. W. Owles received %vord by cable from British East Africa, that his son George had met with a serious motor accident, and his condition was hopeless. Yesterday, Mr Owles received a further message stating that his son had passed away on Wednesday. The tragic happening cast quite a gloom over th*» borough, and sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Owles and family in- their bereavement. Senior Cadet Company.

It is pleasing to note that in the British National Rifle Association's report of the results of the shooting in the Imperial Challenge Shield Competition, that A Team, No. 1 Platoon, of the local Senior Cadet Company, appears in the prize list just to hand from the National Association. The Association, in its report, shows that the local company also gained distinction in its shooting for the trophy presented by his Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral.
