RADIO BROADCASTING.

dominion SCHEME PijOIPOSED. WELLINGTON, DeceltobAf 7. A conference of representatives of the radio broadcasting trade irOm all parts of the Dominion concluded today after a tW6 dayS' Sefisiba' at Wek liiigtbn. The object of the tfuifetfeace was the formulation of a Dominionwide broadcasting scheme baaed on suggestions recently embodied in a publid statement made by the PostmastarGeheral. The conference has drawn up a scheme which is calculated to afford satisfaction to both listenefß4n and the trade. The scheme provides for the installation of sotf-watt concert transmitting stations at Auckland* Wellington* Ohristchurch and Dunedin. It is proposed that the service wdi be a day and night service embodying higb>claßS and popular musical items, lectures, instructive and entertaining, market reports, bed-tiWe stories, and weather forecasts. The Government would add aa additional sum to the license fee of all listening-in sets arid part of this money would be handed aver to the broadcast company to defray the expenses of their transmitting. At present the service is purely gratuitous. It is therefore very inferior to what would be provided under the new proposal. A deputation is to wait on the Postat an early date t to place the scheme before him. Stations will operate on different wave-lengths simultaneously, and those who have mere powerful sets can select .programmes without any extra charge, one fee covering the four Centres.
