ELLESMERE LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The EUesmere Licensing Committee met on Thursday.. Present—Messrs Wyvern Wilson, S'.'M.' (chairman), J. Sharpo, A. J. Magson, and R. Macartney. An application for «.- transfer of the license of the Leeston xiotel from G. Mitchell to James Frederick ifcCormack waa granted. Mr A. C. Fryer appeared for Mr MeCormack. Permission to carry on business in temporary premises pending the rebuilding of Uio i<eeßton iiotei (which, was destroyed by are) waa granted to J. i'\ McCorm-ick. itegarduig the application, the committee empliasised that under the Act a permit cou.d bo granted to carry on in temporary premises ior six months, and if the new oiutding were not ready for occupation at the end of that time no extension of the permit would be granted. The licensee waa also requested to nave the plana of the new building prepared within the next fortnight. Mr I'ryer said it was intended to erect the new building in either ferro-concrote or brick. A renewal of the lioeiiM regarding the Canterbury Hotel, Mothven, was granted to Jsoies McTagg&rt. An application was made for a certificate of waiver regarding the regulation which requires that notice of application for a transfer must be given by advertising it three wqpka before the date of the meeting. The chairman elated that a- good many similar applications had come under hio notice from time to time, and he desired it I to be known that the Act must be complied .with.
