Striking evidence of the adaptability of the pumice lands around Lake Taupo for afforestation purposes is to be witnessed (says the "Waikato Times"). Extensive areas of pinus insignis are being planted by natural causes. The wind blows the seed from older plantations, and the ground is very responsive, so much so that thriving trees by the hundred are springing up in all kinds of accessible and inaccessible places, and greatly imnrove the beauty of &e scene.
