THE MOA-HUNTERS.
* FEND OF RELICS. (sr-zciAi. ?o "tke press." l ') DUNEDIN, December 7. ■ An interesting discovery was recently made by Mr Robieson, of the Tourist Department, Dunedin, when, on a visit to Hooper's Inlet. Mr Robieson unearthed a number of ancient Maori relics which it re believed to be associated with tho early moa-hunters. Underneath a stratum containing the leg bones of the smaller species of mba, Mr Robieson found a, greenstone adze. The relics evidently were the remains of an ancient Maori camp. About thirty years ago the lata Augustus Hamilton, working with Mr (now Kir Frederick) Chapman, at the mouth oi) the Shag river, unearthed a piece of polislied greenstone in similar circumstances. Mr Robieson's find further confirms these earlier discoveries, and proves that the ancient moa-hunters were in touch with the remote localities in which greenstone is found. = !
