small fraction of the cost; its timber supports 2000 workers, and is yet only an industry in its infancy; its coal in the northern district is mostly undiscovered; its gold mining, when the Rimu Plat dredge clears £IOOO profit per week, is far from di.-ad. The most arresting feature of Tft est Coast lito is its kindly, generous hospitality. _ _ In no ptyt of New Zealand does the visitor feel s»s of a stranger, and the friendly people of this region have many to gratefully remember theni. Exhibition Items. There is a great demand for accommodation in Hokitika next week. The proprietor of a leading hotel stated yesterday that he was receiving over a score of telegrams of enquiries for rooms every day. Though it is admitted that accommodation will be taxed to the utmost, the Exhibition Council is confident that satisfactory arrangements can be made for all visitors. This ia a great tribute to the work of the Accommodation CommitThe Exhibition office staff will take otef the offices, at the end of this week. The ihain annexe of the Exhibition will be lighted by 33 one-hundred candle power electric arc lamps throughout the 325 yards of its length. A great feature Will be the number of exhibits in motion for 'which electrical power will be provided. Miss Tpdhuntcr, of Christchurch, will give demonstrations daily in cooking by gas at'the - Hokitika Gas Company's stand. Mr P. Jones takes charge of the restaurant this week. Arrangements have been made with a circus company to give throughout the course of the Exhibition.
