CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the executive, of th« Canterbury. Bowing Association was held last night. Present—Messrs F. D. Kesteven (president), W. Duggan, 11. Jffi. Nightingale, W. S. The Christchurch Regatta Club's" j>rogiaiaiao ior the regatta to be held on January 26th, 1924, waa approved. . it, was decided to appoint Mr W. S, Godfrey umpire for the Redclifls regatta, which is to be,, held to-morrow. Subscriptions and tho list of members were received front the following affiliated rowing clubs:—Canterbury, Lyttolton, 11mafU, Sumner-Redclifis and Cure Boating •Club. The membershi^r 1 showed a decrease; last year there £69 members, this year there is so far 51-4. Messrs Kesteven and K.J. Ilobbs were appointed Rttwingi Association delegates to tne Olympic .Games Committee. A letter was received from tho Otago Rowing Association stating that there wa» a, possibility of tho regatta, being revived Port Chalmers this season and that the Association had decided to revert to its old date, viz., Anniversary Day. The Christchuroh City Council wrote stating that the Association's request to have the willow trees on the river-bank from treat road Bridge to the Milo -Post trimmed had been referred to the "Works Committee. - , , _. _ The president stated that the trees had since been burnt out. The Canterbury Club wrote stating that it had just received a four-oared racing boat from Sydney and. had to pay £l4 6s 7d Customs duty. . The letter stated that a, boat similar totha one procured from Australia could not be built in Zealand, Mid under these circumstances the c'.ub understood that a refund of duty oould be/ obtained and requested,- tho Association to ap!ply on its behalf. The president stated that boats of the class imported by the Canterbury Club could not bo procured in New Zealand, therefore there should to no duty. It was decided to communicate with the STew Zealand Bow in £ Council at Wellington and asik it to place, the matter before the Commissioner of Customs with a view of having the duty on all imported boats refunded. It was decided to approve of the Akaroa regatta programme, but an opinion was expressed that there were too many events. It was thought that it would have been better to have omitted tho pair oa.f racos. It was decided not to approve of the rowing races at the Sumner Gala. REDCLIFFS REGATTA. Apart from the full programme of sporting events at the Redcliffo regatta, and gala to-morrow, attention has been paid to tho provision of amusement far the large number ct children who will accompany their parents. There will be races, ridea on ponies, slides down the chute, and a big Christmas tree. Also there will be tripa on the estuary in the fine launch Pacific. Refreshments will be available, including soft drinks and lollies. Older folk will find a hugs tea tent anxious to cater for their requirements. The comfort of mothers has been watched, and a special tent has been set aside for their benefit. The committee has endeavoured to make for the comfort and enjoyment or tho thousands who will visit Pedchffs ±nere will be continuous mußic from i?° P cludl "K famous Woolston Band, and an orchestra.
