Lyons (Premier of Tasmania) waited on Dr. Earlo Pag© (Commonwealth Treasurer) and requested financial assistance by the Commonwealth to save Tasmania from bankruptcy. 3lr Lyons explained that- las Government had prepared a memorandum for Dr. Earle Page, showing the hopeless position of Tasmania. He added that it would be cheaper for the Commonwealth to lend aid now than to carry the burden subsequently if the country failed.
The amount required by Mr Lyons was not specifically stated, but it- is understood that it exceeds £150,000. The Commonwealth is at present paying £35,000 annually to Tasmania.
