MELBOURNE, December 3

A ghastly tragedy occurred in an apartment house at Carlton, wheie Mrs Kathleen Price was found, with her throat cut, the head being almost severed. The police on arrival found a young man waiting on the doorstep with his clothing covered with blood. Going upstairs with the police, the man, Charles Johnson, pointed to the woman lying face downwards in a pool of blood, fully clothed, and said, "There sho is. Dead all right. I say nothing." Johnson remained quiet till about to be handcuffed. Then ho struck oui, knocking the police downstairs.

Eventually iie was arrested and charged with murder.

SYDNEY, December 3. Charles Johnson, charged with the murder of Mrs Price, was remanded till Monday next. The police, stated that they were first notified of the tragedy by deceased's elevon-year-old daughter, who was awakened ]>y her mother's screams, and who saw a man hacking at her throat.

There were evidences of a violent struggle.

William Murray and Alfred flines have been arrested and charged with murder.

It is believed that the crime was committed with a pocket-knife with a razor edge.
