OPAWA GARDEN FETE.
OPEN-AIR DANCE RECITAL. The fine summer weather of Saturday favoured the garden fete at Opawa in common with all other outdoor attractions held that day. Tho function, which was organised by tho Opawa Ladies' Guild of the British.' and Foreign Seamen's Society, was held in .-the' beautiful grounds of Mr and Mrs P. W. Anderson's residence, "Risingholme." , Mr. Anderson, in opening the fete, wished the function every possible success. Ho congratulated those) responsible for the management upon the able manner in which tee arrangements had been carried out.
An enjoyable programme of music was given by the Christenurch Tramway Band, and a demonstration of dancing was given by Miss Mulvany Gray and Borne of her pupils. This is the first outdoor demonstration that has been given in Christchurch, and tlve work of the pupils fras particularly graceful. The costumes worn were entirely suitable for the Afternoon, and one was transferred into the realms of fairyland. Pan, in her realistic costume, played with the Bobbles, who wire blue tunics arid gold bands in. their hair. Among other items given were the Greek Dance, Russian Dance, anrl the famous Bacchanalian Dance of Ancient Greece, which received great applause. The stallholders were: Work stall, Mrs Malcolm. Mrs Tait, Mrs Donald; produce, Misses Ollivier, Manning, and Buxton: sweets, Mrs Palmer; cakes, Mra Wilding and Misses Robinson, Tulloch, and McDonald; afternoon tea, Mrs Stuart, Mrs Bruce, and Miss D. Hfirman; books, Mrs Wood and Mra' Polhill.
