CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE V. SOUTH CANTERBURY.
On Saturday afternoon the Chrtatchurch Bowling; Centre visit-edi Timaru to play South Canterbury Centre in tho annual eight rink match. The gamo fccok placo on the Timaru green, which was in. excellent order, very keen, and playing well. Tho day was ideal for bowling, with tha exception of a slight hazo and a south-easterly breeze, which came across the green from corner io corner, making conditions tricky. There wae a big attendance o: visitors, and afternoon tea '■'»» provided by the Centra and dispensed by tho lady supporters of the Timaru Club. The Christchurch team arrived by the midday express, and both teams were entertained at luncheon in tho YvYntworth tea-rooms by tho South Canterbury Centre. The northern team returned to Christchurch by tho 4.2S expreso. Mr F. Steans, president of the Christchurch. Centre, presented a silver cup for the competition, and Saturday was tha first ©coaeion on which tho cup wis played iot. Mr J. A. Dewar was usnpire. welcome to th« president of til# Canterbitty Centre and his team. They had an 13'eal Jay, and whatever the outcome, ho waa ailre that all the players wculd spend a most enjoyable afternoon. The president of the Cbristohuroh Centre iMr F. Steang) thanked the Soulh Canterbury Centre for their welcome. They looked upon this fixture as one of tha most pleasant in which the Christcharch Centre took part. Ac tbey had not had a trophy in the past; they had brought a small trophy with them, and be hoped that neither Centre would monopolise the names on it. They mottld not be at all aorry to leave it behind them, but eliould they do so, they would their utmost to tako it back with them noxt time, ( Three hearty cheers were given for Mr Steans, who had presented tha handsome cup.
