BANGIORA. "1 The monthly meeting of the Council was '• held last night. Present—The' Mayor (Mr \V. A. Eowse) presiding. Councillors It. MoIntosh. J. Lindon, W. C. Prosser, C. S. Ayers. C. E. Thwaite®, W. E. Pike, and W. L. Murray. Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Jennings and Archdall, and it was resolved to forward, a letter of sympathy to the former in his' recent illness. It w-au ] agreed .to send a siirular letter to. Cx. Archdall, who has also been on-,. th© sick'list;' : The Standing Committee made , the following report:—-The receipts! for October amounted to £756 l'2a lOd. : and ' payment?! to £949- 12a 7d, leaving a credit balance ail the 31st of October of £3375 os 9d as compared with a' debit balance ot £1314 10a 7d at the same date, last year. The following tenders' have been received for the erection of the morgue:— bhankiaiid tnd Taylor, £148; Wadey and Efford. £l6B 10s; Keir and Thompson, £164; A.. 3 ones, £lB5 10s. The committee recommended that the lowest tender be accepted. The, committee recommended that Approval be granted to a subdivision of property on the corner, of High' and Ashley 6ireeta, in the estate of the ; late Dr. XJownes. The gag manager had asked for an increase in salary, and the committee recommended that an increase of £'2s per annum be granted. The committee also recommended that the electrical engineer's salary oe increased- by £25 per annum; The- Department of Internal' Affairs forwarded a copy of the Gazette notice regarding- petition for altered borough boundary, ontt the committee recommended that the Town Manager be instructed to for-, ■ward a detailed objection ta tho proposal. The romrnittee recommended that the Be-: serves Committee inspect Maria , Andrews' Park and ascertain whether the provisions of the lease have been carried out. The' report was adopted. ... The Mayor of Chiristchurch wrote requesting the Council- -to make suitable .arrangements for celebrating the Anniversary of the. Canterbury Pilgrims on December ltith. The matter "was left in the hands of thi Mayor. Owing to complaints regarding , persons riding bicycles on the footpaths arid, with-; out lights at night, it wa3 resolved "to* draw the attention of the police to the master. ' The Town Manager, in his monthly report, stated that in the gas department. for October 40 tons 2 cwt of coal was carbonised giving 554,300 cubio 'feet of gas, an average "of 12,700 cubic feet per ton. In -the electric department the current salee amounted to £154 0s lid, as- compared with j £137 10s ;for the same month last year.. Six new connexions had been added duringOctober. An additional street i Im»P has been erected at Bush street, bne. at the corner of South belt and Bush street, and one at the corner of. West belt and John street. '. . The report waa adopted. ■ , A circular was received from the Canterbury Progress It-amie for financial assistance for their publicity campaign, and it was decided to vote iii 10s to tSe fund. -
