REVOLVER SHOTS EXCHANGED.
ARREST AFTER FIERCE
STRUGGLE.
(PBB3B ASSOCIATION TEL3SCBAM.) AUCKLAND, September 29. For tie past two months there have been numerous burglaries in Devonport, and early this morning Constable Nehotf, who had been specially selected for night patrol duty, made an arrest in sensational circumstances, after a * minutes' struggle. About 3.45 a.m. the constable noticed a man in the Auckland Heat Company's premises, and •waited for the intruder to emerge. Under cover of the noise of a passing milk cart, the man wrenched open the back door. The policeman followed, and, after scaling two fences, one six feet and one ten feet high, came up to the suspect. As the latter failed to stop when ordered to do so, the constable fired his revolver, mainly as an alarm. A few paces further on, it is stated, the man tuVried, and presenting a revolver, threatened to shoot. , Constable Nehbff again fired, the bullet grazing the man's leg. He later threw away his revolver, and, as he turned, the constable leaped, bearing him to the ground.. ■■ A fierce struggle ensued, and Constable Nehoff, who ,is an experienced wrestler, had great difficulty in handcuffing his man. . > The man under arrest is Alfred Arthur Hinds, a professional wrestler known, as "Soldier" Thompson. September 30. In connexion with the arrest of Hinds', his housekeeper has been arrested on a charge of receiving.
