ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of tho Sumner Burgesses' Association was held in the Town Hall last night. the president, Rev. ~\V. McAara. in the chair. Tho annual report stated that the efforts of the Association had been of benefit to the borough, and that although improvements were effected without the public being aware of tbeir origin, the efforts for the year had been very satisfactory. The Association had every reason to congratulate themselves on the recent election of the Mayor and Councillors. Thanks were due to the Tramway Board for the attention which they at all times gave to any suggestions 'brought forward. More members were wanted and would bo welcomed. The Association desired to thank the Sumner Borough Council for their Kindly consideration at all times. Tne committee hoped the members would rally round and push along the affairs of the borough in order to maintain its reputation as the foremost watering place in the Dominion. The balance-sheet showed receipts amounting to £o Is 6d. The expenditure totalled £7 lis 9d, leaving a debit balance of i?2 10s 3d. A discussion took place upon the annual subscription, which was finally raised to 3s 6d. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, tile llev. W. McAra; vice-presidents, .Messrs "\V. Bailey and G. F. Allen; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. C. McDonald; committee, Messrs H. C. Jones, J. -Booth, Foster, Postgate, and F. H. Mathews; auditor, Mr D. Lumsden.

Social Gathering. The meeting then resolved itself into a social gathering and a toast list- was honoured. The newly-elected president, in thanking the members for the honour done him, said that the Association could do a great deal for the by making it a nlace to admire and a place to live in". In its attempts to advance the interests of the borough, it had found the Council always sympathetic and ready to give it a good hearing. There was much useful work for it to do, and there was no reason, whv residents should not take a deeper interest than ever in its efforts. In proposing the health of ih e Sumner Borough Council," Mr G. i. Allen said that the Association felt that in voicing the opinion of its members it was.voicing the opinions or the majority of. the residents, Ihe 80 1 - ougli Council, knowing this, found its path a smoother one. There were many details in the management ot the borough that the Association could easily keep in touch with and so lessenthe burden of the Council. It had always desired to offer timely ana well considered suggestions to the Council .and to take into full consideration the fact that the Borough Council was the responsible body. It recognise-cl the value of the time given to public atfairs by the Councillors, and it sincerely wished to be grateful for services rendered, and to work harmoniously with all . concerned m- the well-fcemg of the district. , Councillor H.
