FATE OF H.M.A.S. AUSTRALIA.
POSSIBLE USE AS A BREAKWATER.
(IT CA.BL»—PMBS ASSOCIATION —COPTBIGHT.) Uustj-jlluu; axd s.z. cable association.) MELBOURNE, September 27. It is believed that the Federal Ministry, in view of tho enormous cost involved in dismantling H.M.A.S. Australia. proposes to utiliss the vessel as a breakwater. It is estimated that it would cost £20,000 to send her to Engknd. and another £15,000 to break her up. [The Australia, which was completed in 1913, was practically a sister ship to H.M.B. New Zealand (now broken up). Unlike the latter ship, which fought at Heligoland in August, 1914, the Cogger Bank in 1915, suid at Jutland in 1916, the Australia took no part in any naval action during the war. When the battle of Jutland was fought the Australia was in dry-dock undergoing extensive repairs after a. serious collision with the New Zealand shortly before. The Australia is one of the ships specifically marked down for "serai ng ' in the Washington Treaty for t.._ limitation of naval armaments.]
