BALL AT SPRINGSTON SOUTH.
; The ladies of the Springston district held their third annual ball in the Soldiers' Memorial Hall on Tuesday evening. There was an excellent attendance, and during the evening the floor spaco was taxed to its utmost, which somewhat hindered comfortable dancing. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Messrs W. Parish, T. Ditfort, and J. Wright. A special feature of the evening was the introduction of the "Excuse Me" and card waltzes, which caused much merriment. Excellent music was supplied Fowler's Band, of Christchurch, whilst Messrs R. Aschen and R. Wall played extras. The floor was in excellent order, and there were about seventy couples present. The ballroom was tastefully decorated with blue and gold streamers and hanging baskets of flowers, whilst the electric light bulbs -were enclosed in Chinese lanterns. The . stage vras massed with beautiful spring flowers artistically arranged by the Indies. A sumptuous 6upper was provided. The. duties of .secretary were efficiently carried out by Miss Cushla Ryan, who was assisted by a strong committee, comprising Misses F! Mcßeiin, P. Cook. Calder, B. Hutchison, R. Henderson, H. Davies, E. Hines, V. Roberts, M. Musson, O. Douglas, and TVl.aud Woods, who deserve the higliest praise for their splendid arrangements.
