ASHBURTON GALA DAY.
COMPETITIONS AFOOT. A well-attended meeting of the Art Union and Competitions' Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers. The secretary reported that the art union tickets had been orinted, and were ready for distribution. Two tenders were received for iho lady's bicycle, and as both were the same price, the names were, placed in a hat and drawn tor. The successful tenderer was Mr L. Hopkins, sub-committees were elected to run tnt> different competitions, such as the lady's bicycle, lady's gold, watch, Morris chair, and picture, ihe various guessing competitions are to start immediately, and are 6ure to prove popular. The matter of a, photograpnic competition was left over to the meeting of the General Cpminittee. The word building competition for school children of the country was left in the hands of the general secretary. The members oi the special committee are:—Lady's bicycle: Messrs A. McCallum, H. Finla}, and W. Childs:. Morris chair: Messrs P. Thomas, J. Donn, and C. Flanagan ; lady's watch: Messrs A. Bray, F. H. Knight, and V. Cullen.
