Dr F C. Hutchison, of Dunedin returned to New Zealand last week after a post-graduate course of study in Great" Britain.
Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., accompanied bv his wife and daughter, left Wellington for Sydney yesterday, en route to the Far East, where> they vull spend some time in travelling. The title of "assistant-professor is in use at the Sydney University, and has recently been conferred ont Mr W. A. Miller, who for the past 10 years has been lecturer and aemonstrator in civil engineering; and on Mr u. jl . Sutherland, who for a similar perm has been lecturer and demonstrator in mechanical engineering.
The Hon. Sir Maui Pomare, Minister of Health, and Dr. T. H. A Valintme Director-General of Health, arrived from Hanmer Springs at noon yesterday. In the afternoon tho Minister and the Director-General of Health visited Quail Island and left in the evening by the ferry steamer for VVellington The Minister had intended paying a visit to the Sunnys:de Mental Hospital, but time did not permit. At the meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association yesterday, Mr P. Selig was unanimously re-elected president, an office which/he has held continuously since the formation of the Association in 1599. His re-election was proposed by Mr C. F. Mark, who is, next to Mr Selig, the senior member of the Board, and who with other speakers paid a high tribute to the valuable services rendered to trotting by the president. Mr W. J. M. Hopkins, lion, treasurer of the New Zealand Trotting Association, who has just returned from a trip to Canada, took hie seai again at the meeting of the Association yesterday. Mr I*. Selig, president of the Association, on behalf of the members, welcomed Mr Hopkins on his return, at the same time expressing regret that Mrs Hopkins, who had accompanied hft husband, had been taken seriously ill after arriving in New Zealand. Mr Hopkins, in a brief reply, thanked the members for their expression of welcome. He said he had had a splendid trip, and was glad to be able to say that Mrs Hopkins was showing some slight improvement.
