ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE,
Arrangements for the annual show which takes place on Octobgr 18th, wore made at a meeting of the general committee of tho Mlesniero A. unci P. Association, hold at lieeston on Thursday. Mr A. E. Withell (president) presided. Tho president referred to the loss the Association had sustained by the death of ?&*"?? J - S - Boa E' P - Chamberlain, aild I. W. Mawson, and a resolution of sympathy with the relatives was carried. The secretary (Mr H. Ncavc) reported having written Dr. ltcakea. Director of Agriculture, Wellington, in accordance with instructions received at the previous meeting, asking assistance in seeming ; ths. services of a resident veterinary surgeon.for thb district. If the Director could recommend a suitable man, the Association wciild interest itself in securing a guarantee amongst its members and others. Replying, Dr. IJeakeg stated thai «t the pje*?nt time he Jid hot know of any suitable veterinarian in tho Dominion who was looking for a district in which to settle, but he would communicate with his friends in Australia, who might know-of someone suitable there. , On receipt of this information ho would again communicate with the Association. The president reported that sineo tho previous meeting the ground committee had inspected tho show ground, and recommended improvements at tho gate where pedestrians entered, in the interests of safety. They alsi suggested that tho produce shed should be painted, and that tho ladies' room should bo improved. These matters wera left in the hands of the ground committee, a. resolution that the painting should bo dono having been carried. In reference to a, discussion that took placo at the previous meeting concerning the non-receipt of an invitation to Eend delegates to a conference of A. and P. Societies recently hold m Christchurch, Mr G. G. Denniston, secretary of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, wrote that two circular letters had been'posted to all Associations in Canterbury, including Ellesmerc, and ho could not "understand how the Ellesmere Association did not receive oithex. Mesßi-s L. "VV Storry and J. Boag, juri. assured the mooting that there was no intention whatever on the part the Canterbury Association to ignore the Eliesmere body. It was most anjaous thai all the societies should bo represented. Evidently the correspondence had gono astray. . The meeting accepted the assurances and tho matter was allowed to drop. A suggestion by Mr J. C. Chamberlain that a list of all winners of the challenge shields Bnould bo printed in the programme and catalogue every year was adopted. : 111- G. 11. Barnelt referred to the practice of removing stock from the show ground before i o'clock on shqw day. contrary to the rules of tho Association. The practice should bo stopped in the interests of the public. TVlembers agreed with Mr Barnett. Messrs W. C. Eggleton (Southbridge) and "W. O'Boyle (Doylc3ton) were elected members of tho Association.
