At the meeting of the Council of the League of Nations on Wednesday the Italian representative sa:d his Government had no intention of recognising the authority of the League to intervene in the dispute between Italy and Greece. Tho Council adjourned. The Belgian Government instructed its delegate to Rtand solidly with Britain, and the Little Entente support this view. The French delegation is divided on tho qustion, and pressure is being exerted on M. Poincaro to modify his instructions. Brazil and Uruguay support Italy. Italy and Corfu. The Italian occupation of Corfu is discussed as a menace to the peace of Europe. One correspondent says Signor Mussolini ; s ill-advised statement discloses certain aspirations hitherto dimly suspected in British and Trench naval circles. Germany and the League. Herr Stresemann's journal, _ "Die Zeifc," discussing the question of Germany joining the League of Nations, advises a "wait and see" policy until the result of the present crisis is known. Japanese Disaster. To-day's messages give further details of the destruction wrought by the earthquake. Chaos in China. The Peking correspondent of "The Times" says there is little,hope of au improvement in the political or financial state of China _ until a new leader establishes himself as a dictator.
