FOODS THAT CAUSE ILLNESS.
Based on the old saying that what is one man's meat is another's poison, medical research is being directed to a new method of curing asthma, skin eruptions, sick headache, and even epilepsy, by serums prepared from foods which are regarded as the cause of the ailments (says the London "Daily Mail"). Serums arc now being prepared from a number of vegetables. "Almost everj'one has an antipathy to one food or another," said one of the investigators. "Strawberries act as a food poison to some, eggs, shellfish, tomatoes, milk, aud even wheaten bread to others. The protein substance in the food does the mischief, aud for some years we have been able to test patients for their sensitiveness to proteins. The oifending food being found, it is removed from the diet, and usually the disease is cut short. The serums now being tested will, if successful, enable sufferers to eat the foods which affect them without harmful effects. Serums are being given to epileptic patients at Hanwell Mental Hospital, but it is too early yet to state the results."
