BETTER PUBLICITY FOR AUSTRALASIA.
I A PAN-PACIFIC BUREAU. i . Hio director of the Pan-Pacific Union (Mr Alesandci Hume Ford, of Honolulu) recently met a number of representatives from the States of the Commonwealth and New Zealand, and outlined the objects of the union. Among those nresent were several consuls ana ! commercial representatives of Pacific camntries. As a result of the meeting, I a branch of the union was formed, and Sir James Barrett was appointed chairman. Mr Ford explained that definite and authoritative information concerning Australia was difficult to obtain outside of liondou and the Commonwealth, ana it was proposed that Australia snould organ.se and establish a. pau-Austraiian . iniormation bure&u that would becomt. part of an ocean-wide .fan-Pacific information bureau with iniormation offices in the large cities of each of the Pacific countries. Several resolutions to tins end were carried, and it was also agreea that there should be a censorship 01 any motion picture films injurious to tiic good name of any Pacific land, and, urging that there should be an interchange of industrial and educational films between these countiies. Iho following committee of the branch was elected: —jir T. K. Ouei, Chinese Consul-General; Mr H. J. Manson, New Zealand Government representative ; Mr H. V. Ryan, South Australian Tourist Officer; Mr I>. H. Ross, Canadian Trade Commissioner, Mr D. M. Dow, publicity officer, Prime Minister's J>epartment Mr J. C. Boyce, V ictorian Tourist Officer. The committee is to arrange for a public meeting to bo held on SeptenVoer 17th, the aay which is observed bv Pacific countries as Pan-Pacific or Balbao dav, and at the meetings in the several countries it will be announced that the Prime Minister has accepted the position of honorary president of the Pan-Pacific union.
